Casillero del Diablo 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon
I stopped by my favorite wine shop this weekend, K&L Wines. My supply of everyday drinkers was running pretty low, so I needed to replenish. I really wanted to like this wine. It’s from Chile, a region that is starting to get some good press for making quality wines. It’s made by Concha y Toro, which is doing some promising things in Chile. And Casillero del Diablo means “Cellar of the Devil,” which is kinda cool. According to the wine label, the winery’s founder, Don Melchor de Concha y Toro, spread the rumor that his deepest, darkest cellar was the Casillero del Diablo to discourage his workers from getting at his best wines. And last but not least, I paid $6 for this wine.
On the other hand, I was skeptical about whether I would enjoy it…because I paid $6 for this wine. Don’t get me wrong, I certainly believe that good wines can be found at ridiculously low prices, but $6? Let’s see.
Turns out, I did like it. This wine isn’t great, but it dreams big. It has lots of potential and some very good qualities. It’s dense and meaty, with big blueberry and blackberry fruit, plus some very nice chocolate. The nose has some leather, though it seemed to have some volatile acidity because I detected a somewhat nail polish-y smell. It has a certain harshness to it and the finish is pretty short. A big honkin’ ribeye or other hearty meat dish should help with that, though. All in all, definitely worth $6. Bring this to a party or keep it for everyday consumption. Drink up!

Hello,
Do you know where I can buy Casillero Del Diablo 2003?
Thank you

Shaye,
The Casillero del Diablo is pretty widely available. I'm not sure where you live, but you should be able to find it locally. Ask someone at your local wine shop or try wine.com. Good luck!

hi, is this page working???
I dont know.
I dont know a shit about "chocolates, leather, nose and that shit". But, (there is always a but), this is 2009. I have already drink my 12 bottles of beer. I have no intention on going to te store for other 6 beers, so i did opened a casillero del diablo 2003. Normally i dont really like this wine, but I noticed that after 6 years in his fuking bottle, it taste diferent. You know, in the "botton" (i dont know if this is the right name) it has the same shitti taste, BUT, it is not totally the same. It is smother, it is no longer acid ( i really hate an acid wine), and i am really enjoying it. Tastes much much better than a new casillero. Have u dink it with diet coke? it really kick ass!!!! I dont know, it is about to finish, and i have lots of other bottles in the kitchen, (this was the youngest) and they are fron 10 to 25 years old. i hope they will give me a surprise too. Sorry about my enghish, it really suckss""!!!
bye
